The second time to deliver the Granocean – this time we flew back to Cairns to delivery it to Sydney
Repeat deliveries are always useful operationally because the vessel’s systems, fuel profile, and handling characteristics are already familiar before departure. That generally allows passage preparation and routing decisions to move much faster compared with taking over an unfamiliar yacht for the first time.
The trip south from Cairns involved typical east coast planning around weather windows and sea state along the Queensland and NSW coastline. Conditions remained relatively manageable for most of the delivery, allowing steady progress toward Sydney without major delays.
The Granocean W60 handled the coastal passage well. Boats in this category are designed for long-range cruising comfort rather than outright speed, making them well suited to Australian coastal relocation work provided fuel planning and weather timing are managed properly.
One thing noticeable on the Granocean platform is how economical the boat remains at sensible cruising speeds. The hull form and displacement suit longer coastal passages well, with relatively low fuel burn for a vessel of this size while still maintaining comfortable daily runs offshore. The motion onboard also remained easy compared with many lighter production motor yachts, particularly once conditions built slightly off the NSW coast.
