A brand new vessel we delivered from Opua to Cairns
Pacific 62 Delivery Skipper
We provide professional sail and power boat deliveries throughout Australia with experienced delivery skippers managing offshore passages for private owners, brokers and manufacturers. This delivery involved a Pacific 62 on passage from Opua, New Zealand, to Cairns, Australia, requiring careful planning for the offshore crossing before continuing north along the Queensland coast.
The passage from Opua to Cairns covers approximately 1,450 nautical miles, depending on the selected routing and coastal approach. Weather systems in the Tasman Sea largely determine departure timing, making flexibility more important than adhering to a fixed schedule. Once on the Australian coast, the route north allows a number of suitable ports should changing conditions or operational requirements make a stop desirable.
Prior to departure, the vessel underwent routine delivery checks including engine and generator fluid levels, cooling systems, steering components and navigation equipment. Particular attention was given to the autopilot, as reliable self-steering significantly reduces crew workload during extended offshore passages. Navigation charts, electronic waypoints and onboard safety equipment were also reviewed before clearing New Zealand.
To minimise the likelihood of avoidable delays, additional consumable spares including fuel filters, oil filters and a raw water impeller were carried on board. These are inexpensive items but can be invaluable if routine maintenance becomes necessary during a long offshore delivery.
Following arrival in Cairns, the Pacific 62 was secured in its berth, given a freshwater washdown to remove accumulated salt, and left ready for the owner’s arrival. A post-delivery report was provided summarising the passage, engine hours, fuel usage and any maintenance observations noted during the voyage, giving the owner a clear record of the delivery and the vessel’s condition on handover.
