Oceanis 473

This yacht was delivered from Raiatea to Australia

This yacht delivery involved relocating a Beneteau Oceanis 473 from Raiatea back to Australia across the Coral Sea route through the South Pacific.

The passage required balancing seasonal weather patterns with fuel and provisioning logistics through the islands before committing to the longer offshore section toward the Australian coast. Like many owner-configured cruising yachts returning from the Pacific, the vessel carried substantial cruising equipment onboard, so weight distribution and onboard management became important once offshore conditions built.

The Oceanis 473 handled the crossing well. These boats are fundamentally cruising-oriented rather than performance offshore yachts, but they remain capable passage makers when sailed conservatively and prepared properly for offshore work. Conditions for most of the trip were fairly manageable with typical trade wind sailing through the western Pacific before the sea state became more confused approaching Australia.

Arrivals into Australia after Pacific crossings also involve fairly strict biosecurity and clearance preparation before landfall, particularly on vessels returning from extended cruising programs through French Polynesia and the islands.

The Beneteau Oceanis 473 remains a common yacht delivery platform throughout the Pacific due to its range, accommodation, and practical cruising layout for longer offshore passages.
