Davidson 35

A quick delivery down the east coast

We provide professional sail and power boat deliveries throughout Australia, with experienced delivery skippers relocating yachts for private owners, brokers and insurers. This delivery involved a 35-foot sailing yacht on a passage down Australia’s east coast, requiring a flexible approach to weather, coastal conditions and passage timing.

Depending on the departure and destination, an east coast delivery can cover several hundred nautical miles and includes a mix of overnight offshore sailing and shorter coastal legs. Conditions along this coastline can change quickly, so departure dates and daily run lengths are often adjusted to suit the forecast rather than a fixed timetable. Selecting favourable weather windows helps reduce unnecessary wear on both the yacht and crew.

Prior to departure, routine inspections were completed on the engine, steering system, standing rigging and safety equipment. Fluid levels were checked, navigation electronics tested and the autopilot verified before leaving the dock. A small selection of consumable spare parts, including fuel filters, engine belts and an impeller, was carried on board to allow routine maintenance to be completed if required during the passage.

Daily operations included regular engine checks, weather downloads, navigation log updates and inspections of the rig and deck gear. Maintaining the vessel throughout the delivery is an important part of long coastal passages, particularly when covering consecutive days at sea.

After arriving at the destination marina, the yacht was secured alongside, washed down with fresh water to remove salt deposits and left clean and ready for the owner’s arrival. A post-delivery report summarising the passage, engine hours, fuel usage and any maintenance observations was provided, giving the owner a clear record of the voyage and the vessel’s condition at handover.
